Saudi Arabia is a year-round destination, but the right timing depends on where you are going and what you plan to do. From winter festivals in the desert to cool summer escapes in the southern highlands, here is how the seasons shape travel across the Kingdom.

October to March: prime touring season

The cooler months are ideal for outdoor exploration across most of the country:

  • Riyadh and Diriyah: the best period for heritage walks and cultural tours, with Riyadh Season bringing major festivals, entertainment zones, and global events through the winter.
  • AlUla: desert experiences, hot air balloon rides, guided heritage tours, and a busy calendar of cultural festivals.
  • Al-Ahsa: comfortable weather for oasis walks, historic villages, and artisan workshops.

October to April: the Red Sea coast

Jeddah, Yanbu, and the Red Sea resorts are at their best from October to April, when pleasant temperatures and excellent visibility make it a great time for diving, snorkeling, and time on the water. In summer, coastal programs shift toward resort-based stays and early-morning marine activities.

Summer: head for the highlands

When temperatures rise elsewhere, the southwestern highlands come into their own. The Aseer region around Abha offers a cool mountain climate, green escarpments, and heritage villages such as Rijal Almaa, while Taif has long served as a summer retreat in the mountains east of Makkah.

Spring in Taif: the rose harvest

Taif’s fragrant rose farms, which produce the city’s famous rose oil, are best experienced during the spring harvest, when the Taif Rose Festival adds a seasonal highlight to any western Saudi itinerary.

Planning around religious seasons

For religious travel to Madinah and Makkah, Ramadan is the most sought-after period and requires early planning, while the Hajj season brings specific travel regulations. Our team advises on timing, requirements, and group logistics.
